Expats almost universally send their children to private school. These schools tend to be built where there are larger expat populations, such as Ambergris Caye and Belize City.

International schools provide an International Baccalaureate that is accepted worldwide as entrance to post-secondary education.

10. St. Peter’s Elementary and St. Peter’s College

Opened in 1996, St. Peter’s Elementary consists of classes from Infant I to Standard VI with five teachers and a total of 16812/30/2005 students. St. Peter’s College is equivalent to a high school with four forms and 42 students. In 1998 St. Peter’s College graduated its first group consisting of 7 students and St. Peter’s Elementary graduated 18.

Recently St. Peter’s good reputation was enhanced when Standard VI student, Candice Chavannes won the National Spelling Bee Contest held in Belize City. This is the first time that a student from San Pedro won this title.

9. Holy Cross Anglican Primary School

Holy Cross Anglican School relies on tuition and private donations to provide excellence in academics for our students. Holy Cross Anglican Primary School is located on the beautiful island of Ambergris Caye, Belize. 7. La Isla Bonita Primary School

La Isla Bonita Elementary School opened its doors as a private school in September 2000 with a total enrollment of 35 children helping alleviate congestion at other schools on the Island. Unfortunately, the same year it was opened, luck was not present because the newly constructed buildings were completely destroyed by hurricane Keith. Nevertheless, the school faced the challenge and took a stand for a new start and only 2 weeks after the disaster, it was the first school to reopen.

Today, La Isla Bonita Elementary School is back on its feet and has developed ever further with 112 students presently enrolled at the school. Students are split into 8 classrooms from Infant I to Standard VI with an average of 12-15 children per class.

Isla Bonita prides itself on having an exceptional learning environment. The classrooms at the school are all air conditioned, they have clean drinking water in every classroom and they keep the school spotlessly clean. The vision of the school staff and management is focused on future expansion and being a leader in the provision of education.

 

6. Island Academy

The Island Academy is a private school built in 1995 in response to overcrowding issues at the only primary school present on the island at that time (San Pedro Roman Catholic primary school), as well as for a need for better education. The school started with 35 students and now has a current enrollment of 65 students, which can go up to 90 students.

The school accepts students from 5 to 14 years old from Infant I to Standard VI with an average of 10-15 children per class. There are presently 6 full-time teachers and 2 afternoon teachers offering special classes of Art and Spanish.

The Island Academy prides itself for developing the character of their young students and instilling discipline and values of citizenship. Students are provided with opportunities to participate in charitable programs with the community and the school. Also, assemblies are held 2 to 3 times per week during which students perform oral presentations in front of all classes and staff as a way to encourage and improve oral skills and character building.

PIA is located at the bottom of the Placencia Peninsula. It is a multi-lingual private international school, providing education at the preschool and standard 1 – 5 levels.

QSI International School of Belize is a non-profit institution that operates classes for children 5-13 years of age. The curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Cultural Studies, Science, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Instruction is in English and individual and group instruction is available for students who need additional help with English. San Pedro High School is a private/government aided secondary school on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize. It is the only high school on this island and it offers quality education to the natives (the San Pedranos) and to students from all over the country whose parents come to live in San Pedro mostly to work on tourism or construction. San Pedro High has been training young people to join the work force mostly in the business sector. Students who wish to specialize, move on to tertiary level of education in a program known in Belize as sixth form (junior college).

Tuition and fees total about $3000 per year for a senior. Language of instruction is English.
