3. Bharrat Jagdeo
Bharrat Jagdeo, born 23 January 1964, is a Guyanese politician who has been serving as Vice President of Guyana since 2020, in the administration of President Irfaan Ali. He had previously also held the office from 1997 until 1999, during the presidency of Janet Jagan. Jagdeo subsequently served as the President of Guyana from 11 August 1999 to 3 December 2011. He also holds a number of global leadership positions in the areas of sustainable development, green growth and climate change.
Jagdeo, a member of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), served as Minister of Finance from 1995 to 1999, becoming president in 1999 after Janet Jagan resigned for health reasons. Subsequently, he won two elections, in 2001 and 2006. He was the first President of Guyana to relinquish office in accordance with term limits he signed into the Guyanese Constitution.
He is fourth richest in Guyana with a net worth of $22 million.
4. David Grangar
David Arthur Granger, born 15 July 1945, is a retired military officer who served as the 9th President of Guyana from May 2015 to August 2020. He served for a time as Commander of the Guyana Defence Force and subsequently as National Security Adviser from 1990 to 1992. He was Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Guyana from 2012 to 2015.
Granger stood as the opposition coalition’s presidential candidate in the November 2011 general election but was defeated. He was elected as President in the May 2015 general election. He lost a vote of confidence on 21 December 2018 that led to a snap election.
5. Donald Ramotar
Donald Rabindranauth Ramotar, born 22 October 1950, is a Guyanese politician who was President of Guyana from 2011 to 2015. He was also the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) from 1997 to 2013.
Donald Ramotar and the PPP lost the 11 May 2015 general election to the opposition APNU – AFC coalition led by David A. Granger, which won by a slim margin. President Ramotar left office on 16 May 2015, when Granger was sworn in. Ramotar was not included in the list of the PPP’s 32 MPs in July 2015.
He has a net worth of about $20 million and he is the fourth on the list of 2022 richest people in Guyana.
